From Railroad Stop To Growing Community
The Galloway area began with large tracts of land in what is now Prairie Township. Samuel and Jean Galloway acquired property in the area around 1861, and development began to take a more recognizable shape as additional land was cleared and prepared for settlement.
A major change came in the early 1870s when a railroad line was built through the community. The first plat for Galloway was created around 1872, followed by a railroad station, post office, stores, churches, and other businesses serving nearby farming families.
The railroad also helped Galloway become an important shipping point for grain and livestock. Local historical accounts describe warehouses, sawmills, general stores, and other businesses that grew around the new transportation connection.
Today, Galloway remains part of Prairie Township in western Franklin County, with established neighborhoods and newer residential areas throughout the broader 43119 community. That mix means HVAC systems can vary considerably from one home to another, making accurate diagnosis especially important.
