The Bexley Community Grew Around Its Original Neighborhoods
Bexley’s modern identity began in 1908 when the communities of Bullitt Park and Pleasant Ridge voted to merge and incorporate as the Village of Bexley. Bullitt Park had developed as an area of country homes and estates along East Broad Street, while Pleasant Ridge was connected to the Lutheran and academic community surrounding Capital University.
Capital University had already established an important presence in the area after moving to Bexley in 1876. Education, residential development, churches, local businesses, and neighborhood institutions helped give the community a character distinct from the larger city of Columbus around it.
Bexley continued growing after incorporation and reached a population of 5,000 in the late 1920s. The village became a city in 1932, while its residential streets continued developing with a wide range of architectural styles, from Tudor and Colonial Revival homes to cottages, Cape Cods, and later modern designs.
That housing history matters for HVAC service today.
