Marysville’s story begins in 1819, when Samuel W. Cuthbertson founded the community and named it after his daughter, Mary. Located along Mill Creek, the settlement grew into an important local center as farms and surrounding communities relied on Marysville for goods, services, and trade.

The city’s original development is still documented through Union County’s historic plat records. Marysville’s original village plat dates to 1819, followed by additional additions and changes as the community expanded throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries.

For much of its early history, Marysville’s businesses served the agricultural community around it. That role began changing as improved transportation and industrial development brought new opportunities to the area, particularly with State Route 33 creating a stronger connection toward the Columbus region.
